The desire for shared posts to reach wide audiences is driven by both emotional and economic benefits. However, the need to conform to widespread norms and repeat popular content to achieve this reach is criticized by young people for compromising originality. In this context, while young people expect originality, the concepts of difference and diversity they mention cannot be entirely defined as being outside or contrary to the system; differences that adapt within the system are more accepted. The effort to gain likes leads young people to display what is likable and acceptable. Receiving likes is equated with success, while the fear of not being liked or being “lynched,” as young people term it, deters them from differentiating themselves. Indeed, the framework of being different or how different one can be changes according to the character they want to portray.
